RELAY FOR LIFE

This weekend was my town's annual Relay For Life event. It was Friday night from 6pm-1am. Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. For the relay, your team tries to keep at least one member from your team on the track for the whole duration of the night. The point of the race lasting so long (some bigger cities go from 6pm-6am) is because it is supposed to represent the different stages that the cancer victim goes through after diagnosis. During the middle of the event, there were candles lit for thousands of our very own friends and family members who had either passed on from cancer or who had survived it. It was a very humbling experience. Cancer has a very long history in my own family and to see thousands of people come together and raise enormous amounts of money for research and cancer programs was BREATHTAKING to say the least. Exercise and having a healthy diet plays a very important role in staying cancer-free, but now that I know I can participate in events like this where I can help OTHER people fight cancer....I will do all that I can. I encourage each of you to look into the ACS and Relay for Life! Cancer touches all of us in some way. You can check out their website at: www.relayforlife.org

Very motivating! I volunteer at the Relay for Life event here at the hospital I work at, and since I am a Respiratory Therapist in the Navy, I unfortunately see cancer in almost all it's forms on a daily basis. It's always good to see those supporting such a worthwhile cause! =)

Awesome! Most people in our community really get into the the relay every year. It's a very fulfilling experience, and should be on everyone's planner atleast once.
