LET DOWN AFTER COMPETITION

DOES ANY ONE GET LET DOWN AFTER COMPETITION? I HAVE TRAINED FOR A LONG TIME, NEVER KNOWING THAT ONE DAY I WOULD COMPETE IN THE ONE THING I FOLLOWED. I HAVE BEEN A JOCK ALL MY LIFE. THEN I SETTLED DOWN INTO MARRIAGE AT 18. I RAISED MY CHILD AND WAS A GOOD WIFE. BUT MY LIFE WAS LACKING SOMETHING. I MISSED COMPETING. DURING MY MARRIAGE I NEVER ENTERED ANY SPORTS BUT WAS A GOOD WIFE AND MOTHER. IT WASN'T UNTIL I STARTED WORKING FOR A GYM AFTER I GAIN A LOT OF WEIGHT AND WAS WEIGHTING ALMOST 200LBS THAT I DECIDED I DIDN'T WANT TO LIVE THAT LIFE. SO I DID THE BODY FOR LIFE CHALLENGE. OF COURSE I DID LOSE MY WEIGHT, BUT I WANTED TO TAKE IT FURTHER. I DID, I STARTED WORKING FOR A GYM. I BECAME MY OWN PERSON. ALIVE AGAIN!!!! I REALIZED THAT I NEEDED TO MAKE SOME CHANGES IN MY LIFE. ONE BEING THAT I KNEW MY MARRIAGE SHOULD NOT CONTINUE EVEN AFTER 21 YEARS. I THEN DID FALL IN LOVE WITH THE ONE PERSON WHO I LOVED FOR A LONG TIME WITHOUT HIM KNOWING, (MY TRAINER). WE HAD SO MUCH IN COMMON, THE LOVE FOR LIFE AND BEING ACTIVE BUT THE MAIN THING IS THE LOVE FOR EACH OTHER. I KNOW A LOT OF YOU ARE THINKING "OH, SHE LEFT HER HUSBAND FOR HER TRAINER" BUT REALLY IF YOU KNEW ME IT WASN'T LIKE THAT. NOW I AM LIVING MY LIFE TO THE FULL, YOU CAN ASK MY FAMILY! BUT THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT ONLY YOU GUYS CAN ANSWER FOR ME, THAT IS, DO YOU GET LET DOWN AFTER A COMPETITION? I HAVE DONE 2 OF THEM. I DID OUR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHERE I TOOK 1ST IN MASTERS THEN OVERALL ON THE MASTER, NOVICE AND TEEN SIDE. THEN JUST TO PROVE I WASN'T A ONE HIT WONDER I DID A SHOW THAT WAS A DRUG TESTED AND TOOK 1ST IN OPEN LIGHTWEIGHT WOMENS AND 1ST IN MASTER WOMENS. I AM FEELING KIND OF LET DOWN. I WANT TO DO THE STATE SHOW AGAIN IN 2008, WHICH I WILL MOST LIKELY DO BUT AT TIMES I FEEL KIND OF DOWN. I DO KNOW FROM PROMOTING SHOWS THAT THERE IS POLITICS INVOLVED BUT I TRUELY BELIEVE PEOPLE WILL DO THE RIGHT THING. I GUESS MY BEST ANSWER TO MY OWN QUESTION IS "TRAIN FOR MYSELF AND IF I FEEL I HAVE DONE MY BEST THEN THAT I SHOULD BE HAPPY WITH WHAT I HAVE DONE", SO HAVE ANY OF YOU FELT THIS WAY. GOD GAVE ME THE BODY I HAVE, AND I TRY TO THE BEST THAT I CAN WITH IT. ANY COMMENTS WOULD BE GREAT.

Hi Superchick!

I can't comment specifically about feeling let down after a contest because I've never competed in one. (I've dreamed about it though!) But what you are describing often happens to people after a "mountain top experience" like you had in winning the contest(s). You've spent a long time working hard and sacrificing for this event. Then, it comes and is quickly over. The excitement and the spot light is great... but is over quickly. I think you just need to remind yourself how far you've come and be proud of your accomplishment. Give yourself some earned time off and then look forward to the next challenge. Good luck!

Thank you for responding. I thought a lot about what you wrote and I do agree. Sometimes we just need someone to point these things out. But again thank you, I am feeling better. I am working toward my next competition and feeling great!
