THE SKINNY ON ABDOMINAL FAT
There are so many times that I see patients come into the office and complain about losing fat in the abdominal area. The first response is always I do a million sit ups and it just won't go away. Well as we are all aware sit-ups just won't do the trick, it is a combination of diet and cardio. Cardio being the most important when trying to lose weight from the abdomen and flanks (we know it as the muffin top). The other important issue is the difference in abdominal fat, there is subcutaneous fat (below the skin) and intra-abdominal fat (fat located within your body cavity around your intestines known as omentum). Most barrel chested men or women that carry weight predominately in the upper regions of their body have mostly intra-abdominal fat. This fat predisposes people to cardio-vascular disease, high blood pressure and even cancer. It is the hardest fat to lost, it can only be lost with a strict diet and lots of cardio.
I have assisted in many bariatric surgeries (Surgical weight loss for people with a BMI greater than 35) and it is amazing to see the amount of fat that is located within the body cavity. Another important aspect in dieting is when we start to diet the liver actually gets smaller. We would put our patients on a 2 week diet to shrink the liver because it always got in the way if it was too large during the procedure. The liver doesn't get smaller it gets thinner and more pliable. Pretty interesting
I really could not find a good article that I thought was worth posting so this is all from my personal experience and what I see on a daily basis. I hope this will help people to understand how to target those stubborn areas.
Good Luck!

I've been trying to get that 6 pack for sometime.
To tell you the truth i don't really focus much on cardio (its a little boring).
But if its the only way to get the 6 pack ... i'll do it.
