MERITS AND DEMERITS

i've been on this site for a little over a year. i think this site is cool and there's alot of good people that visit this site. when i first started visiting this site i use to give alot of good advice. i'd poor paragraphs of whatever i could to help with what ever questions someone might have. never once did someone give me a merit for effort or quality advice. but say one thing that might be disagreeable and its a quick demerit. i could really care less about the whole reward system. i just think its funny that people like to see the negative rather then the positive in people. so who ever gave me the demerits screw you get a life and i would also like to know what it was for.this has really made me more of comment on something here and there kind of guy rather than spill globs of info that probably no one pays attention to. even though i get better that avg results in the gym.

No Allan, actually Merit to you....I feel the same way and couldn't of said it better myself.

Perhaps, Twentyfive, you are looking at this from your viewpoint and not the viewpoint of your "peers" or the other students here. I don't think anyone here posts anything with the expectation of receiving a merit. (this obviously would not apply to any thread where we know up front we can receive a merit just for replying) As I see it, a merit can be given for any number of reasons, but it is always going to be the end result of someone elses appreciation of a post, response, etc.

And I believe Allan answered the issue of a demerit in a spot-on fashion. There was no need to respond in Tiffany's thread with such negativity. If you felt it necessary to express yourself that way, you should have sent her a private message.

Bottom line, I believe, is that everyone at RA brings something to the table. I can offer very little in the way of real help to most of the athletes here, but I try and participate in a positive way, even if that just means supporting those that are working so hard to achieve their goals.

We are here to offer knowledge, and support. Like Allan said.....this is like a family. Tight knit.

I dont know anyone on here personally, but I can honestly say that I would definately stick my neck out for pretty much anyone on this board. Solely based on the support, and open arms I have received since I have been posting on here.

I dont expect to be rewarded for sharing things I have learned. Just like I am pretty sure noone expects to get a merit for helping me out.

Knowledge is power, and its opensource. Just because I know something doesnt mean it belongs to me. If I can help someone out by sharing what I know then why not.

Maybe I will get a demerit for speaking my mind on this, but I honestly dont care either. I know I am respected for what I have accomplished, and what I will accomplish. For the help I have given others. Not by a little number in green by my name.

Thats my two cents. Take it how you want to.

Once again...Merit to shaggy n Marty. Like I've said many times before, I think of this place as my second home....all of you are my family, and have helped me threw some of the roughest times in my life. I don't know half of what some of you know, but if I feel I can help someone out in any way possible...I try.

Why anyone like Twentyfive, feels like downing someone who's years of hard work and sacrifice in their life has got them somewhere is beyond me. Learn to listen to the advice of your peers not one-up it. It will make life alot easier for you.

I believe everything should be done decent and in order. We are all here with one thing in mind and that is to better ourselves for the journey we are on. Some want to loose weight, some want to compete, others just want to live a healthier lifestyle so the moral support I find here is awesome!

Words typed have no voice behind them so we must make sure when we make a comment we take the extra time to reread what we are saying before posting it. An extra minute goes a long way!

The one sentence typed may need to be two in order to better explain what we are saying while taking the other persons feelings into consideration.

We all as members of R/A are hear to learn and be supportive of each other as we exchange information about training, fitness, nutrition, etc.

We also have to keep in mind that we all come from different backgrounds, ages, gender, beliefs, and goals.

That being said, we need to be aware that our views, comments, and opinoins on topics will vary and we need to be respectful to one another in what we say through our words.

first of all i appreciate everyones opinion but the point is being missed. first of all im not the greatest speller. ok so what. "pour", my bad. thanks for checking my grammar and not my intention. very intellegent.my point is this that when i have put positive remarks or helpful advice, no merits. which leads me to believe that no one really reads what i or anyone else has to say.unless your part of the so called RA family aka a click. on the other hand people as a whole in society including RA enjoy looking at the negative so they can quickly attack. point proven. so i like to read what people say. my point in a nutshell is that the reward point system is a deturent ( did i spell that right ricecake? j/k deterrent)from wanting to participate in a conversation that i might read and enjoy. also this sight has become very clickish. i would like to apologize to tiffiany

I dont think anything was taken the wrong way, nor out of context.

I think the responses you got were based on past interaction with you. Comments that you have made.

RA may be clickish, but you should have noticed by now there really isnt a huge amount of people that post on RA. There is a rather small group of us that really really post on here. So for it to seem clickish, I think is something that can be easily happen.

In regards to merits once again. The way you come off seems childish and jealous. People read what you type; that is obvious. Now, if they choose to merit you for it is their choice.

I have posted plenty of things I felt were merit worthy. Others didnt, so I got no merit. No sweat off my back.

I would have to ask this....have you opened any thread and not gotten a single response? I would think that is the opposite actually. If you post something and you get a response, then someone is obviously reading. If its merit worthy and someone feels that way, they will be more than happy to click that little plus for you.

Until then, keep posting what you know. Share your knowledge. Try not to come off so crass or callous and I am sure you will get merits soon enough.

As The Rock, and Danny both said....There is no tone in type. You cannot tell how a person is really intending something to be taken without seeing an expression on their face.

I will dutifully merit you for apologizing to Tiffany though.

Well 25 all I can say is maybe you are missing the point? This is a very positive place, thats what makes it so enjoyable for everyone. When anyone comes aboard we welcome them with open arms and do whatever we can to assist in their fitness goals. There is a difference when you help someone out with good info, or just blurt out what some might think are offensive comments. If you didn't agree that Tiff's comic book was a good thing, why say anything? Thats just set'n urself up...as bogey pointed out above this hasn't been just a one time thing with you either. Sure, no ones ever gonna agree with everything you say or do....but thats what forums are for...to learn from others and speak your mind..(to an extent). Why would you hold back from offern'n advice to others if you thought it was good advice and you could help them out? I'd much rather offer that then point'n out negatative things about others wouldn't you? I really don't think anyone here is rip'n on you, or keep'n you away from our "click"...were all just try'n to make you see where we are comming from. I'm sure we could all learn something good from ya...don't hold back!

Although I still think you need to re-evaluate your position on a few things, I am giving you a merit for both responding in a civil manner, and for making a public apology to Tiffany.

I don't think your "click" theory is in any way true. I know only one person here in a "physical" sense, but from reading and following along with their journeys one can't help but feel "the family thing" with many others.

Don't give up on RA for the wrong reasons. Stick around, participate and remember this is a forum and not a "one on one", "face to face" meeting. Take care to consider other peoples feeling when typing, and I bet it will all be good.
