I guess that depends on what you're going to do with yourself - look at all the Jay Cutlure type body's...do you think they're in good cardio shape? Some of those guys might not have the endurance to run a single mile, but on the other hand - look at the SIZE of them...
Never lose sight of something you believe in; 2009 - Year of the Bogey
I am not flexible and i have never been super flexible. Squats if anything made me more explosive. I think that statement is false.

absolutely false, but to a certain extent. a very important factor in maintaining flexibility while weight training, is performing the whole exercise through its WHOLE range of motion. performing an exercise through a 1/2 range or 3/4 range over a long period of time will no doubt make you more flexible only through that range of motion because you hardly use the other 1/2 or 1/4 of the motion.
but more importantly, to maintain flexibility regardless of your size, daily stretching is required. to keep your muscle strength/size, you work out. to stay fast, you practice speed tranining. to keep your heart in good shape, you do cardio. to keep flexibility is the same concept; you stretch. these are the four pillars of total body fitness.
look at Bruce Lee. his body was almost pure muscle from head to toe. he worked every single muscle to its fullest and his body was a MACHINE. insanely fast, unbelievably strong, and extremely flexible. he incorporated these four things (strength, speed, cardiovascular, and flexibility) into his daily routine.
but big guys can be flexible too. take a look at Brock Lesnar. hes HUGE, yet he moves very quick for a man his size. also, look at Melvin Anthony. in his posing routines, who wouldve thought a big guy like him could bend that far backwards, maintain that position, and bring himself back up and THEN do the splits!
overall, weight training does not make you stiff, but you still need to perform flexibilty exercises to maintain true flexibility.
Dear Lord you done took so many of my people

In arnold's bodybuilding encyclopedia there are pictures of tom platz, the man with possibly the biggest thighs ever seen on a bodybuilding stage, twisting himself into knots on the floor with ease. and he some huge quads.
I think that statement generally is true. Others have mentioned some of these big guys that are flexible - and there's no doubt that they are incredibly flexible AND huge at the same time - but they are exceptions.
There's no question that most guys who get really huge are slower and less flexible. The good thing is that most of US normal people will never have that problem. lol :)
