Gas is high. It jumped from 3.55 to 4.00 in like a day. I just hope this Hurricane Ike passes by and kills nobody. Praying for everybody in the path of this storm.
DANG GAS
Tell me about it mr Pres! My daughter lives in east Houston and is going to get smacked by it. I'm 200 miles away in San Antonio and we're going get dumped on tomorrow.

Here in the UK prices are pretty mad. Recently they were as high as £1.35 a litre, which works out to be about $8 a gallon.
glad we're not paying UK prices...
in chicago...you're right, the jump can happen in a hurry. big city = inflated prices (station owners realize they have us "over a barrel" and we'll pay whatever they can get away with without being accused of price gouging) you also have to deal with cook county taxes in chicago, which are some of the highest taxes around.
it's a bit cheaper here in rockford...
road trip to hillc11's town to fill up. :)

Zero- I know that in NH the station owners have no control over the prices, it comes straight from the company themselves, they get a phone call when prices are to change.
And yeah, NH has been on the news lately as to having some of the lowest gas prices, still ridiculous it costs me $40 to fill up my CAVALIER!!! but o well, could be worse

Chuck,
In Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, there is a higher demand than say Oregon Illinois. There are far more deliveries, work commuters, and community services (busses) that make gasoline consumption steady.
When there is news of a shortage or a potential damaging storm, the price of gas rises because it cannot me contested.
With this in mind, they chip away at price as it should fall to ride out their most profitable time. Price fixing is horrible.

Hillc11,
I would think that the "companies" would be in charge of regulating the prices. A few years back, we had some serious price gouging by individual owners around the time of one of the hurricanes. Maybe it is better regulated now...the price didn't go up noticably with IKE.
$40+ to fill up my Saturn...$60+ to fill up the Montana.

$4.45 downtown Chicago! I try and save my fill-ups for over by Ohare where it's always about twenty cents a gallon cheaper.

I don't feel so bad. It is 3.59 here in the Omaha area. I just went to the Kansas City Golds Classic this weekend (9-13). It was 3.56 when we arrived in kansas city. The next day when I went to fill up it jump to 3.86. Back in Omaha and still 3.59. I will not complain when I hear some are paying in excess of 4.00. Plus I have a little tiny car that gets about 40 to the gallon.
