1ST PICTURE

I just posted my first picture taken in my bathroom. The lighting isn't great, but neither is my lower stomach fat. I hope to take another picture in 3 months showing some gains (and losses!). I'm a bit self-conscious, so it took some guts on my part to even post a picture online. Be nice!

These past 20 days have been tough. I caught a cold, and discovered working out while feeling sick is a bad idea. You feel OK while working out, but later in the evening you feel even worse. IMO, it's better to rest and recuperate while sick before returning to the gym. It's probably not good to work out in the gym while sick anyway, because you can spread your germs around. Just not good etiquette.

One weekend I had to leave for a business trip to Texas. So, I spent a lot of time away from the gym, and in a stuffy room or in a car eating fast food. Not good, but I didn't know the area, or what was good. Lots of Jack-in-the-Box.

Last week, I returned to the gym and found that I couldn't lift as much as I could before, but my cardio was just as strong (I could do the same difficulty and for the same amount of time while retaining the same heart rate). Oddly enough, I think that week or so off actually helped, because I think although I can't lift as much as I could 2 weeks ago, I look better and felt better getting back into the gym.

My gym won't give free personal training (hey, nothing is free these days), but has something called fitness orientation free to members that you can participate in every 2 weeks. I'm not sure what it's all about, but I signed up for it tomorrow at 1pm. Tomorrow is a holiday, so I don't have to go to work! Hurray!

I've been tediously counting carbs/fat/protein and calories. It's a difficult process because sometimes you go somewhere, or eat at a friend's house and you have no idea how to measure what you're eating. Also, I've heard eating peanuts or just nuts in general is a good idea, but they seem kind of high in fat. I've been eating them, but 1/4 cup of peanuts is about 17g of fat. Oh well, as long as the scale isn't dramatically increasing, and my body fat measurements are decreasing, I'll stay on my program.
