26 YEARS AND STILL EXCITED

For all of you new and impatient lifters or for those standing on the plateau of frustration; don't give up! When I started lifting in seriuosly in 1981 I weighed in at 145 lbs at a shade over 6ft. When I was an adolescent I went through a stage of being of pretty chunky and then at 5 ft 9 inch the summer between 9th and tenth grade I grew over 3 inches! weighed the same and looked as if a strong wind would blow me away. 1980 i went to live with my aunt in NJ while my parents lived with my sick grand father. In 1981 I moved back to PA and back to my old school where I barely had any friends. I worked the summer of 1981 as a dish washer and got it in my mind to get my own weight set and had my eye fixed on a weider bench at Woolworths and 110 lbs steel weight set. I scraped together my money and put up with the degrading butthead of a chef until I met my goal, and bought that weight set. Man was I excited! So I benched and I curled and my Brother inlaw encouraged me calling me Arnold and giving me that Reg Park book. Then I Rowed and did french curls and squats. Wow it was like what was always missing for me! I gained 20 lbs that summer and by mid year of school I had a new group of buddies and gained another 10lbs tipping the scales at 175lbs and by the end of the year 180 lbs. I started meeting more girls and became cocky (confident would be an understatement) Wow! So I kept pumpin and pumpin then hey! wait a minute! I stopped growing! Had my super powers gone away? So I got mad and started to read every issue of M&f trying everthing out, and gained another whopping 5lbs. Man I thought this was it I'll never grow again! Little did I know 5lbs is awesome. 200lbs after 15 years and stopped dead,if I gained anything it was fat! Never quit! never give up! i was incredibly strong! I could squat 500 for reps and leg press 1200 with some huge guy at Gold's in Lakeland FL. Formerly I was squatting 350 for 20 reps in my attic in Germany. (all true) But where was the size! Kept going with super poundage until the back problems. Then I stumbled on less is more,Creatine,Zma, and 220LBs enter small plateaus every where. But now I'm not threatened by them, I just know that when your climbing a mountain a plateau is just a benchmark of your ascension. As long as you have the courage to keep reaching up and seeing the summit. I just finished a 6 week mass phase and am blown away by the couple of pounds I've gained in the last year, and how I look. 26 years and I'm still excited!

Great story BG. The next time that you get stuck, you should give beta-alanine and waxy maize starch a try (stacked on top of the creatine and ZMA that you're already using). They'll keep you going for the next 26 years!

Great post, i'm close to a plateau now and i can feel it...i'm not quite frustrated, i'm just shifting gears to fat loss for a while then hitting up a HUGE stack, and it's funny, my training partner calls me Arnold jokingly from time to time, and so has my father...
