EATING ON A BUDGET

Buying supplements on top of 6-7 meals per day gets expensive. If you've ever been strapped while trying to live the bodybuilding lifestyle, then you know how excruciatingly untenable it can be. Poverty is a great motivator, so don't let it get you down. Do something about it!

First and foremost, buy all of your protein (chicken, fish, eggs etc.) in bulk. (Same goes for protein powder. Skip the 2 lb and go straight for the 4 lb) Trust me, you'll save in the long run, but you have to know where to look. A good price is around $1.97 per lb. for lean chicken breast. You can get about a weeks worth of Chicken for $15. Also, make sure you stock up on a TON of eggs. Probably the cheapest little protein source one can buy, make sure you buy a lot so you can hard-boil a lot. You can get around 60 eggs for $7-8. Anytime you're starving but need a quick meal on the go...BAM...hardboiled eggs. I always boil six eggs in the morning to keep in my refrigerator in case I need to run out somewhere unexpectedly in the middle of the day. If not, they're dinner. Also, tuna and tilapia are both inexpensive protein sources that can also be bought in bulk. Those of you privy to Fresh & Easy markets out on the West Coast know that a can of chunk light tuna will set you back only .50 cents; in a word: Awesome.

Canned vegetables are also quite inexpensive at around .50 cents a can. You will have to deal with the fact that there's more sodium in canned foods, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. Also, a decent price for raw almonds or walnuts is around $4 per lb.

I want to make clear that this isn't the end all be all, nor is it the perfect bodybuilding diet. Of course you'd like a little more variation, but sometimes you just have work with what you have. It's just a few suggestions to help keep you on track when life tries to move you off track a little. You're always in control and don't forget it.

I used to get my chicken at Costco which, I think, was around 2.99lb, but now I frequent Fresh & Easy markets. They're only out in CA, NV, and AZ, I believe, but they're expanding pretty rapidly.

I hear ya on the Oats. Also stock up on sweet potato babyfood!

Yeap, Walmart is my best friend. Also, Sam's Club or any of the club places you usually need to pay a yearly fee to shop at is a great way to save. Oatmeal and rice in bulk are the best common methods for good ol carbs. Great post!!!!!

I eat banana baby food before working out! Baby food is great and you dont have to worry about it spoiling or not being ripe!

definitley agree about tuna - I live in england so comparitivley things are more expensive but buying tinned tuna in bulk is a good strategy for budget protein intake
