81It's January 2nd and I'm getting ready to start my contest prep next week. It's 19 weeks from Saturday. I'm starting early because I want to be ready early and I'm also going on a cruise with my wife in February and I'm NOT dieting on the cruise. It's steak and lobster every night with lots of butter...and some cake on the side ;)

I'll eating a ton of food this week to prepare myself for the diet. This week are all high carb days, with moderate protein, and minimal fat during the day. Every night I'll be having a cheat meal as well. (which will NOT be low fat)

The idea of this is to get my metabolism running at a high rate when I start my diet. This way, I'm as full (glycogen) as I can be, as well as elevating my metabolism and giving my body a good stimulus to loose weight/fat.

I started this week very flat and weighing 223lbs. I dropped about 10lbs since the beginning of December because I was slowing down and resting. I was eating 5 meals a day, not six, and enjoying life a little more. Things will be getting real strict starting next week.

Just to understand this: You'll be putting on a lot of weight while you're having your cheat meals, but when you come off your cheat meals you'll be burning fat quickly because your body got used to it, right?

I won't be adding too much extra weight by doing this for a week.

It takes roughly 3500 UNUSED calories to add a pound of fat...so I may add a pound or so of fat, but in the end it will come off easier and more will go with it due to the faster metabolism ;)

This will be my third year competing. The first two shows I did, I had a totally different approach to dieting. I basically starved myself and did a ton of cardio so fat loss for me was difficult. Last year I did half the cardio and ate more food, but carb cycled and the weight fell off me. LOL So yes Prudence, it get easier ;)

Your log is very helpful. I am worried cuz I already do so much cardio now that when I come to pre contest phase I will have issues. I just cannot bring myself to put on a ton of weight in the off-season. Thanks for sharing your program with us.
