Artificial Sweeteners

81During this dieting process of getting ready for the guest posing, I’ve tried something a little different. In the past I’ve used on average 10-15 packets per day of Equal/Splenda in my oats, teas, coffees, and other carbs for a sweeter taste. As research has shown, artificial sweeteners can interfere with the neurotransmitters that tell our bodies that we’re full or satisfied.

I have found this to be true for me. Now that I have cut out most, if not all of my sweeteners, my appetite has been much more manageable. I no longer feel dominated by hunger and the consistent thoughts of eating. I also don’t crave sweets like I did the past. All of this has made my dieting process easier this time around. If I do feel the need to sweeten something I’m using Stevia. It’s an acquired taste, but it doesn’t make me starve all day long.

Overall this has been a huge lesson. It’s also one I will pass onto my clients in the future.

So other than you feeling less hungry, have your felt any different besides that? I've always wondered that actuall "long term" effects from sweetners, etc...I actually prolly use just as much as you were or more. Some say actual sugar is better for you than splenda, equal, etc...I think I will stick to the splenda for now.

I feel great Jer. Jess is using Sugar in the Raw and says she doesn't get the hunger pains or cravings anymore either.

I do feel "more healthy", but that could be just a mental thing. Either way, how I feel is the most important.

I will say, if I'm getting lean, then I will still use Stevia and Splenda, when Stevia isn't available. Equal, aspertame (sp?), isn't good for you at all so I avoid that as much as possible.

Mario, Jess and I will be using Agave and Honey as our only sweeteners when I'm done with this contest Prep. I've read about Agave and seen it at Whole Foods. I can't wait to try it. They say it sweeter then honey so you don't need as much for your foods.

Joe,

I have read lots of information about the artificial sweeteners and associated side effects. Good for you to do something different and try the stevia or agave. I have only tried the stevia a few times, and to me it's too sweet. I eat really bland and don't have the "cravings" for sugar or sweet.
You are really doing a great job in detoxing and cleaning out your system of internal toxins. Keep up the good work , see you soon. :)

WOW, I didn't know that artificial sweeteners could do that to your body...I use Splenda but not much of it. Only in my liquid egg whites in the a.m. and thats it. Great information! I will definitely make a mental note of it :o)
